Bit of a fright at the third-last, but he lengthened well down the straight for me again. We got it right today and he showed the true horse. He's maturing away as well. I'd imagine so (go chasing next season). Like you saw at the third-last, he had a little guess at it. I think when he does get a bigger obstacle in front of him, his jumping will come into its own then. I’ve always thought the world of him, he has huge ability and I’m looking forward to him going over fences next year. Paul thinks that he doesn’t have much respect for hurdles and he could always do that type of thing even schooling at home. He thinks he’ll have far more respect for fences. I said to Paul to be very positive on him because he has a huge, long stride. He gallops and is able to quicken off that. His pedigree would suggest he can go out to three miles any day of the week and I know he has enough pace to go two miles so we will let the horse tell us as he learns the game in the autumn.

I'd nearly have to give him 11 ½, I think. Plan A obviously went out the window after the first hurdle. Thankfully Il Etait Temps didn't bring him down, Paul said he was very close to it because he absolutely winged the hurdle. Then he had no lead and had to go and make his own running. He did it well, he got very free at the first hurdle down the back and took some jump at it. I was delighted to see that but I knew he couldn't keep that up. Paul got him back, got him into a slower rhythm and got him jumping better. He said he was still racing in his hands the whole way but he eventually settled for him. I think he'll learn an awful lot today. The big crowd and all the buzz before the race itself, all that will be a help for him in the future.

I was very happy how he jumped for a horse first time out and making his own running. He hurdled like a handicapper and it was a fantastic performance. I’m not sure what happened at the third last and Paul thought something just caught his eye. He just gave him a squeeze and he took off up the straight. We’ll see how he is after this and maybe look at Christmas.

He was quite worked up in the parade ring and down at the start which wouldn't be like him, so I think the season was probably starting to get to him a bit. I said it before Cheltenham that there wasn't much between this fella and Redemption Day on homework. Redemption Day is a very good horse as well. Turning out of the back straight, I'm thinking to myself 'you're a bit flat' and I wanted to hold onto him as long as I could. I'd love it if I'd had the balls to let Jody (Townend on Redemption Day) to go past me. I didn't even want to get involved as early as we did. I was happy I would beat American Mike for gears but I thought that Redemption Day might be a little bit quicker than me. He was flat today and he still won, he got headed and he battled back. He's the full package, he can do it tough if he needs to.

Facile Vega was very good, he’s shown me at home that he’s always good. We were really worried about conditions here today, but he relished it. It was a tough decision by the stewards to do what they did and it was great that they did it quickly and they got the race run. That’s what I see every day, this horse just travels when we do work — now you’re seeing what I see. He’s a real sort. Gordon thinks a huge amount of American Mike and he just ranged up beside him and went forward when he wanted to.

That was pretty 'wow!', we went a good gallop and when I turned in and gave him a bit of rein he has lengthened his stride. He is a bit special I'd say. I think Redemption Day is up there with him. I'd say this fellow was quicker today than he was at Christmas, he quickened quicker, but Redemption Day would have to be in the conversation too. What I loved about him both days was I lined him up and he has had no cover and he settled both days. He's in your hand, he travels, but he is not fighting you. It makes life a lot easier as a jockey in that I'm not having to look for cover or having to drop in or do different things. I can ride him wherever I want. It's very unusual for good race mares to have very good progeny but Quevega was always a bit different.

He’s always shown me that he is decent. He worked well last year and we said we’d put him away until he was more mature. He’s a fine big, long-striding horse and Patrick was keen to let him use his stride from early in the race. That worked as they weren’t able to get past him. Patrick said when he asked him he went up into another gear. He’s shown me at home that he looks like a racehorse but now he is one on the racetrack. He could have a nice future. I’d imagine he’ll take the usual route of the Dublin Racing Festival and then on to the spring Festivals.
