David Marnane's Santo Padre caused something of an upset in the feature Woodlands Stakes at Naas.
Sent off a largely unconsidered 12-1 shot having not tasted success since winning the Portland Handicap at Doncaster in September 2009, Fergal Lynch held him up at the back of the six-runner field as market leaders Katla and Spirit Quartz cut out the running.
Spirit Quartz got his head in front approaching the furlong pole, but Santo Padre burst through on his inside and drew two and a half lengths clear on the run to the line in the Listed contest.
Fran Berry made every yard on Jessie Harrington's Backbench Blues (4-1) to win the Naas Racecourse On Facebook Rated Race.
After setting just a steady gallop on the hat-trick-seeking gelding, Berry kicked for home on the turn and readily held them all at bay, with Croi An Or finishing well for a two-and-a-quarter-length second.< Strada Colorato landed some tidy bets in the opening Naas Median Auction Maiden.
Supported into 4-1 second-favourite having opened up on course a couple of points bigger, the Ger Lyons-trained gelding took it up from Qasser two furlongs out and quickly asserted.
The winner pricked his ears and idled once in front, but Gary Carroll kept him going to hold the fast-finishing Lucciola by a short head.
Johnny Murtagh asserted in the final furlong to take the goracingatnaasracecourse.com Maiden on John Oxx's Royal Visit (2-1 favourite), who beat long-time leader Srucahan by a length and three-quarters.
David Nagle's top-weight Maarek (11-4 favourite) battled his way to the front inside the final furlong under Wayne Lordan to take the Go Racing In Kildare Handicap by half a length.
Chris Hayes bounced the Andy Oliver-trained Bankroll into the lead in the Summer Barbeque Evenings Handicap and the 5-1 co-favourite never looked like being caught as he won by a length and a half.
