Willie Mullins is again responsible for saddling the favourite in a novice event at Cheltenham, but Black Hercules heads to the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle on the back of only two runs over timber.
He has not been seen since December 7, but that has been by design.
"He's good and I just didn't want him to have a hard race - I wanted to try and keep the tiger in the tank for Cheltenham," said Mullins.
"We haven't had any problems with him."
For his jockey Ruby Walsh, this race remains a rare peak unconquered.
He told his Paddy Power blog: "The Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle is the only Grade One at the Festival I've never won. He was fourth in the Bumper last year here but it's going to be a tough race to win.
"I wouldn't swap him for anyone and if he finishes in the places you'd have to be happy as there's a bit of depth to this race."
Mullins also runs Arbre De Vie Avant Tout Measureofmydreams and Milsean
Another strong Irish contender is the Mags Mullins-trained Martello Tower
Owner Barry Connell said: "I think Martello Tower is my best chance of a winner at Cheltenham.
"His form is very consistent and he's won two Grade Threes. He gave 4lb to Outlander the last time and was not beaten far.
"He stays and will handle better ground."
