Patrick Mullins will have to wait until tomorrow for another attempt to set a new amateur riding record as Bally Longford the 7/4 joint favourite faded after cutting out the pace in the bumper at Leopardstown.
It was the heavily-backed Tangled Web and Nina Carberry in the JP McManus colours who picked up the gauntlet from Bally Longford entering the home straight and asserted in the final furlong to reward punters at 7/4. Charlie Swan’s four-year-old son of Flemensfirth had been 5/2 this morning.
“He’s a lovely horse. He probably won’t run in another bumper. He looks a chaser in the making. He’s very straightforward, has a bit of pace and stays well.
“He seems to go on any ground. He’s a nice horse to look forward to. It’s nice to have a nice horse in the yard as well sell a lot of ours.”
Tangled Web won by two lengths from Emperor Of Exmoor who put in an impressive run on debut for second place at 12/1. Gabriel Brandy was a further three parts of a length back in third at 11/2.
