Stone the master in big field maiden
The I.N.H. Stallion Owners European Breeders Fund Maiden Hurdle had the appearance of a fair contest and it produced a winner that looks a promising type for the future, successful 'pointer' Stonemaster (Davy Russell) getting the better of Perfect Smile by a length and a quarter. Frascati Park for the Nigel Twiston Davies yard, headed the betting at even money for owner Barry Connell, but Ruby Walsh's mount made a mistake at the second, the pace-setter was headed at the third last, and despite keeping on, he was never going to get back at the front pair. Another successful 'between the flags,' King Of The Refs showed ability back in fourth place.
Dessie Hughes said of the Gigginstown House Stud-owned nicely-supported winner (11/2 into 9/2) afterwards: "He's a nice tough horse but still a bit weak. Hopefully he'll go on to better things - maybe a winners race next. I have no great plans though."
