Smullen steers Dotada to Fairyhouse win
Five times Irish Champion Jockey Pat Smullen registered his 43rd success of the campaign (two behind leader Fran Berry) when overcoming trouble in-running to eventually produce the Peter Casey trained Dotada to win the Ratoath GAA Family Raceday Handicap at Fairyhouse today.
Smullen was travelling well on Dotada but had little racing room two furlongs out, but ran on well when a gap appeared a furlong out, eventually running out the three parts of a length winner over Bay Knight
Casey was absent but his son Francis stated "Dotada only came to herself this time last year and must like this time of year. Today's ground is only 'summer soft' and they're only really knocking the top off the ground - she would ideally like nice ground."
Winning jockey Smullen added "Dotada is a nice filly and while I had to sit and suffer for a gap to open up, she quickened well and did it nicely."
