The Tony Martin trained Redera under Ruby Walsh, readily defied a mandatory 6lbs penalty when justifing 5/4 favouritism in the Gerry Igoe Drainage Handicap Hurdle at Roscommon this evening.

Redera moved through to lead on the bridle before the final flight, staying on strongly for an easy five and a half lengths win over Strain Of Fame

Afterwards Martin stated “Redera was due to go up 13lbs for winning at Wexford last Friday so we decided to run here under the fixed penalty.”

“The one that went off in front (Madame Mado) went off very fast and set it up for Redera but it was still some performance. He’ll stick to hurdling but I can’t see him going over fences as he is very small.”
