Puttore impresses in the last

Sat 20th Aug 2011, 17:58

Puttore in the colours of Norman Ormiston took the last race on the card at the Curragh this afternoon, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden, for her trainer Kevin Prendergast with Declan McDonogh in the saddle.

The daughter of High Chaparral was making her seasonal debut today having run twice as a 2yo last summer.

She was beaten by just a length on her debut at Leopardstown last June by the smart Together before going down by two short heads on her second start over the course behind Wild Wind and Laughing Lashes.

Sent off the 10/3 second favourite today, she made smooth headway between horses to lead over a furlong out. She kept on well from there to draw clear inside the final furlong, recording an easy four and a half lengths win over Cnocan Diva back in second at 25/1. Dreams And Desires finished a short head back in third at 5/1 while the 5/2 favourite Solar Verde could only manage a disappointing sixth under Pat Smullen.

Winning trainer Kevin Prendergast said afterwards: "I was afraid we hadn't done enough with her as she had been off for so long.

"She suffered a slab fracture to her knee last year. It was a worry from day to day with her as we couldn't put any pressure on it.

"The vets did a great job with her and she was swimming for most of the winter.

"We will try and get a Stakes race for her and see if she is good enough to win one of those."
