Princess Yaiza's colours were carried to success for the first time in Ireland at Dundalk today as owner Lindsay Laroche's expensive breeze-up purchase Point Reyes landed the Christmas Nights At Dundalk Nursery Handicap for trainer Gavin Cromwell and jockey Conor Maxwell.
Cromwell and Laroche teamed up for Group 2 Prix de Royallieu glory on Arc weekend with Princess Yaiza in October 2018 and while owner Laroche raced Princess Yaiza four times unsuccessfully in Ireland, today was on the mark for the first time in Ireland with 280,000gns Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up purchase Point Reyes.
Following the race Cromwell's assistant Feidhlim Cunningham said “it was a good ride from Conor and he kept it simple out the back and she had the turn of foot to go past them.
“She was an expensive purchase as a breeze-up horse so we were hoping she'd be good enough off that mark around here.
“She had some nice enough form in deep maidens so we were hopeful coming here that she'd be better than those.
“We might keep her going here, we'll have a chat with Gavin and see.
“The owner is American (Lindsay Laroche) and he had a Group 2 winner with us last year, Princess Yaiza.”
