Polly Ella came with a late charge to claim the first division of the ten furlong handicap at Dundalk.
Chris Hayes had settled his mount in rear in the early stages and went wide in the straight to deliver his challenge.
The Harry Rogers-trained mare flew home inside the final furlong, however, and got up in the closing stages to record a three-parts-of-a-length victory over the well backed Alghanem (16/1 in morning into 6/1).
The winner had been as short as 5/1 this morning but proved friendless and eventually went off 12/1. She had finished a creditable fifth here last month on her return from a long break.
"You have to get lucky sometimes! She was down at the bottom of the handicap. It was an ordinary race but she travelled well," said Rogers.
"We'll find another one for her somewhere."
2/1 favourite Hawkswood held every chance inside the final furlong and had to settle for third.
