Gold Patrol overturned the favourite Dun Scaith as he took the Cashel Maiden Hurdle under Barry O’Neill for his boss Colin Bowe.
The five-year-old son of Gold Well won a point-to-point at Cregg on his ninth career start just last month, and he was sent off the 9/2 second favourite this afternoon, with Dun Scaith, for Andrew McNamara and Tom Hogan going off the short priced 7/4 market leader.
Settled in the mid-division, the bay victor improved to take closer order before the third last, and he moved into second before two out.
He travelled best between the final two flights, hitting the front approaching the last, and going away on the run-in to score by three lengths.
Dun Scaith, who had attempted to make all, had to settle for second, while Willow Grange was a further three and three parts of a length back in third under Eddie O’Connell for John Ryan at 14/1.
