- Owega Star is well-named
Owega Star is well-named
One of his stable stars, Obviously found a new home at £130,000 at the sales during the week, but Peter Fahey has plenty of other talent at his disposal and Owega Star should have plenty of good days ahead if his win in the K Windows & Doors Supporting Kildare GAA Hurdle at Naas is anything to go by.
Ridden by Fahey's brother-in-law, Andrew Leigh, the four-year-old was one of two to bridge the gap to the front-running Cottrelsbooley at the business end. He then needed to be tough on the run-in to get the better of Fully Funded by a mere nose with a length to the aforementioned Cottrelsbooley. They left Canaly all of thirty nine lengths behind whilst the favourite Our Girl Salley (P.R.N BUT SHOWED SIGNS DURING EXAMINATION THAT SUGGESTS THAT SHE MAY BE COMING INTO SEASON & GOT TIRED IN THE HEAVY GROUND) wasn't at her best finishing last.
Fahey said: "He surprised me a bit today to be honest. I knew he was a nice horse but today was just a stepping-stone to a four-year-old Listed race here in two weeks time (the Fishery Lane Hurdle on November 12th).
"I thought that he'd need that run for the experience and it is brilliant that he did that.
"He'll definitely come back here in a fortnight's time.
"Andrew said that he didn't enjoy the ground but he is very tough. I don't think he had too hard a race there." (EM)
