Ger Lyons struck in the opening Tattersalls Horse Trials Claiming Race at Fairyhouse today as his Hyperlapse won, beating stablemate Talk Now into third.
Top weight Hyperlapse, under Colin Keane, made all to beat Eadbhard by half a length while Lyons' other runner Talk Now, later claimed for E5,000, was a further two and a quarter lengths away in third.
Afterwards Lyons said “you'd de disappointed with him (Hyperlapse) coming off the bridle. You've to drop him down to a claimer to win and he's only taking the mickey.
“He's just doing the bare minimum, even at home, but he leads all the work and is a good honest horse.
“He has plenty of size and he's capable of going on and doing two jobs (flat and hurdling) for someone on that kind of ground.
“We had no problem dropping him down here to win his race and if somebody claims him for the E20,000 plus his prize-money he's made his value.
“Colin said he bounced off the ground, loved it, and he'll be a good fun horse for somebody.”
The runner-up Eadbhard was claimed, by J.M. Keogh to be trained by Shane Duffy while Talk Now was also picked up by Ms Paulette Kenny to be trained by George Webb.
Prior to Talk Now's successful claim, Lyons had said “this year I've sent fillies to the sales with wins to their names and couldn't get bids on them and I said to Declan (Landy of Talk Now) that it's going to cost you to train this one to win what she's capable of winning, so we dropped her in at the minimum bid and if somebody wants her they are welcome to her.
“They are both good clean horses and if they don't claim them I can't help them any more than that!”
