Jan Vermeer scores easy Gallinule win
Aidan O'Brien claimed his tenth win in the Group 3 Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes at The Curragh today, when his Jan Vermeer bolted up for an easy win, under Johnny Murtagh..
The Group 1 winning juvenile son of Montjeu raced in third, before eventually moving through to lead over a furlong out, staying on strongly for an easy length and three parts win over Bobbyscot
Afterwards an impressed O'Brien stated “we weren't sure whether Jan Vermeer was ready to win today but he has always shown loads of class and hopefully there is now more to come with him now.”
He added “we will discuss plans with his owners and Johnny Murtagh now but his next race will be either the English or the French Derby.”
Following the win, William Hill bookmakers cut Jan Vermeer to 6/1 (from 16/1) for the English Derby.
