Coogan takes opener
The opening race on Derby Day at The Curragh, The Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup Handicap was won by the locally trained Maria’s Dream from the Jimmy Coogan yard.
Gary Carroll raced the Desert Sun filly in mid-divison, made progress approaching 2f out and under a strong drive by Carroll the pair improved to lead from 1f out and kept on well to hold off th 5/1 favourite Rock And Roll Kid of Tony Mullins’.
Winning trainer Coogan said afterwards, “She won here the last day and she obviously likes the track. Ideally we’ll look for some Black Type for her maybe in a Listed Race she might not be good enough but we’ll see.”
