- Cheeky treble for McNamara
Cheeky treble for McNamara
Andrew McNamara stole the show at Gowran Park with a 51/1 treble. He completed the hat-trick on Cheeky in the Gowran Park Racing Club 2010 Maiden Hurdle having earlier partnered Alaivan and Luska Lad to victory.
Cheeky impressed all that saw him sluice home at Ballindenisk last Sunday, yet he was allowed go off at 12/1 in this three miler for trainer, Margaret O'Sullivan.
McNamara went wide on the son of Presenting who was a definite leader after two out. From there he was holding all the aces as he went on to beat the gambled-on favourite, Hughies Grey (5/1 in the morning into 7/4) by all of nine lengths.
A delighted O'Sullivan said: "He won a point-to-point last Sunday in Ballindenisk and I was a bit worried that he'd make a show of me here today (running him so soon). We think a lot of him, I'm not sure where he'll go next though. He got injured when he ran in a maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan so we brought him point-to-pointing to get his confidence back.
"Michael and Noreen (Rowland) are the owners. They are great owners and they come from Ashbourne where they're in the construction business. They have two other horses with me too."
