David Marnane unleashed a smart newcomer in the opener at Fairyhouse, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden, as Boom The Groom landed the spoils under Pat Smullen. The son of Kodiac was sent off at 10/1 and he made virtually all, staying on well under pressure inside the final furlong to see off the 6/4 favourite Colour Blue by a length and a quarter. The Kevin Prendergast trained newcomer Pixie Hollow (12/1) finished a short head back in third while Pillow had to settle for fourth at 7/4. Marnane said afterwards: "He is another nice Kodiac. We bought him for £22,000 at the Kempton Breeze-Up Sales. "He has been working well and we fancied him. He could be very good and he settled well in front and stretched away. "He shows plenty of speed but he will get further and he can step up in trip." Pat Smullen commented on the ground saying: "It is beautiful ground, there is no jar in it."
