Dual COLM QUINN BMW Mile Handicap hero Saltonstall took another tasty prize this afternoon in the Jim Ryan Racecourse Services Munster Mile Handicap at Limerick.
Amazingly a 25/1 shot on this occasion, the biggest price he’s been for any of his five wins, Sam Ewing got a winning tune out of the chestnut, on his first time to take the reins.
He ‘burst’ a couple of runs back at Gowran, but there didn’t appear to be any issues at all for him here, as he sluiced up by four and a half lengths from In From The Cold
Favourite Dance Jupiter could have done with a clearer run. He was ultimately well held though, two lengths back in third.
"He is a fabulous horse and to be honest I thought he'd struggle today on the ground but he went through it very very easy; I just hope the handicapper doesn't get carried away as they are getting well strung out today,” said winning trainer Ado McGuinness.
"It is a pleasure to have him, what he has done for us in the past two years is amazing and he is a dream horse to have.
"He wouldn't carry a penalty in a Listed race so we will try and find something for him before the turf season ends and then finish him up until next year."
S.M. Crosse, rider of Dance Jupiter trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ran short of room two furlongs out.
J.M. Sheridan, rider of Cyrus Dallin (GB) trained by Denis Gerard Hogan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount never travelled and he eased two furlongs out.
The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving Nebo ridden by A.J. Slattery, Dance Jupiter, ridden by S.M. Crosse, Flaming Moon ridden by C.T. Keane, and Sheer Bravado ridden by L.T. McAteer, where it appeared Dance Jupiter ran short of room and Nebo got bumped. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action other than to advise L.T. McAteer to ride with more care in future.
