Billy Lee is riding at the top of his game, and after his earlier win on Miss Jabeam he completed a 71/1 double when bringing Drakensberg (11/1) through with a perfectly-timed challenge to win the Bulmers Handicap for Tony Martin.
The Samum gelding had won twice at Dundalk in the spring, and travelled well into the straight before running on to beat the staying-on Ilikehim (50/1) and Mademoiselle Penny (14/1) by three quarters of a length and half a length.
The 4/1 favourite Dromana finished ninth.
The winning trainer Tony Martin was continuing his good run of form and said: “The faster the ground the better. He ran so well in Dundalk and he just wants nice quick ground.
“He's a horse that had a wind issue and I thought coming up the hill in Galway wasn't the job for him.
“We thought he had performed so well in Dundalk and the like of here was similar on quick ground. It's brought the best out of him.”
