Top-weight Tooreen Legend went one better than last year when winning the Ladies Derby under Nina Carberry for trainer Tommy Stack.

The 10/1 shot soon raced in third behind Sharjah and Hurricane Ridge With five furlongs to negotiate, the five-year-old gelding tracked leader Hurricane Ridge in a close second.

He moved to the head of affairs with a furlong and a half to race and was soon ridden to go on and win his race. He galloped on and was too strong for Majenta (5/1) who closed in the final furlong to within a length and a quarter. Paddy The Celeb kept on for third at 12/1. He was beaten a length and three quarters in total by the winner.

"He's a solid old horse. He keeps finding and Nina gave him a great ride," said Fozzy Stack.

"He was second in this last year carrying 12-1 and they changed the conditions slightly this year.

"He wants very fast ground. We could try him again over hurdles but it's hard for him with the way they water the jumps tracks. He should have won a three-year-old hurdle at Roscommon a couple of years ago."

The Stewards interviewed Ms N. Carberry, rider of Tooreen Legend, concerning her use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found Ms N. Carberry in breach of Reg 10 3.(f) excessive frequency and having taken her record into account suspended her for four race days.
