The market confidence behind Cool Thunder proved spot on as the daughter of Shamardal scored in great style on debut in the Bungle Inthejungle EBF Fillies Maiden at Naas.
The Kevin Prendergast-trained juvenile, supported at 3/1 this morning and sent off the 9/4 second favourite, could hardly have been more impressive in this six-furlong event.
She asserted on the stands' side a furlong out, and went right away in the closing stages under Chris Hayes to score by six and a half lengths. Paytheprice took the runner-up spot, with La Fleur De Force another half-length away in third, while 2/1 favourite Not Misbegotten could only manage ninth.
Prendergast said, "I thought she might win as she had been working well. I don't know how good a race it is but she is a nice filly.
"She broke her jaw as a yearling and that is what she is so late running. That may be as far as she wants but we could try her in a Guineas Trial as she might get seven furlongs."
He added, "The horse in the first race (Mizaah) cracked a pastern. It's unfortunate but these things happen and he is going to Troytown (Veterinary Hospital)."
