Tequila prevails in battle royale
Tequila Lord just got the better of Seamies Dream in a prolonged duel for the Munster Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel.
The pair both moved through to dispute matters at the second last but it looked like Seamies Dream was gaining the advantage on the run-in.
Tequila Lord stuck on dourly in the closing stages, however, as his rival started to tread water, getting up in the dying strides for a half-length success under Eddie Power.
The runner-up had attracted plenty of support before racing (from 14/1 into 7/1) but was easier to back on course, sent off a 10/1 shot.
It was a welcome winner for trainer Moses McCabe, whose last success 'on the track' had come last St Patrick's Day at Wexford.
"He's the unluckiest horse I've ever trained. He's had a few injuries and deserves to win. He won well," said McCabe.
"He'll stay handicapping and will go chasing at some stage. The plan was to settle in behind today and come late."
