Springs A Girl makes winning debut in Listowel bumper

Springs A Girl got her career off to the best possible start when scoring on debut in the Shanahan Power Irish EBF Mares (Pro/AM) INH Flat Race at Listowel.

The Richard O’Brien-trained filly reeled in the front-running Miss Oreo over a furlong out and galloped on strongly under Ray Barron.

The 11/2 chance had two and a quarter lengths to spare at the line over Oneforthefairgreen with uneasy 5/2 favourite Mount Sinai a further two and a half lengths back in third.

Miss Oreo could find no extra to finish in fourth.

Colm Ryan, part-owner and assistant to trainer Richard O'Brien said, "Myself, my brother Aidan and father Michael bred and own her and she is a lovely mare who was doing everything right. We'd have been very disappointed if she didn't win.

"We were a small bit worried about the ground being tacky but she had no issue with it. She was a bit green late-on but it worked out well.

"Her half-brother Curlew Hill was quite talented and we'll hope to sell her now. She has no issue with winter ground."
