Rateel recorded his third career success as he got up close home to take division one of the Palmerstown House Estate Remembering Anne Brewster Handicap.
Successful at Dundalk in March, the Johnny Levins trained bay ran eight times since, disappointing on his most recent efforts at Tipperary and Dundalk respectively.
Available at 8/1 in a place this morning, he opened on-course at just 5's, touching 7/2, before going off a 4/1 chance.
Settled in third by Ronan Whelan, he travelled best on the outer with two furlongs to race. He was ridden to challenge with over a furlong to go, getting up close home to prevail by a head. Secret Path (28/1), who attempted to make all, had to settle for second under Leigh Roche for Pat Martin, while D'rock was a further two lengths back in third under Conor Hoban for Mick Halford at 16/1. Set To Fire (6/1) completed the placings a further two lengths back in fourth under Seamie Heffernan for Johnny Murtagh, while Helvic who was sent off the well-backed 7/2 favourite (from 5's), finished a disappointing seventh under Shane Foley for John Murphy.
Johnny Levins said afterwards: "Everything went wrong in Tipperary and he ran with the choke out. We decided to bring him back up to Dundalk as he likes the surface there but he disappointed for whatever reason.
"He was keen again today but just got away with it. He's still a bit of a baby."
