On his third start on the racecourse More Madness got off the mark in the final race at Limerick this afternoon, the Riverfest bumper over 2m 2f, for his trainer Terence O’Brien with Pat Collins in the saddle.
The 5yo son of Dr Massini ran in eight point-to-point's from April of last year to February of this year winning on just his last start at Bandon.
On his first start on the racecourse he ran a cracker to finish second just three and three parts of a length behind subsequent Punchestown Festival winner Buckers Bridge in a bumper over 2m at Gowran in March.
He then ran at Cork on Easter Monday again in a bumper this time over 2m 4f where he again finished in the runner-up spot three and a half lengths behind Minella For Value.
Having chased the leaders early on, the winner took closer order at the halfway stage and was second six furlongs out.
As turned for the home straight he was struggling but plugged on gamely under pressure to lead inside the final furlong, keeping on well from there when pressed by 20/1 shot Minella Reception who was 10/1 this morning, for John Nallen and Andrew Duff.
The official winning distance was a neck while there was a further two and a quarter lengths back to the well backed 11/8 favourite Dunmoe (10/3 this morning, opened 13/8 on course) in third, who looked a winner in the early straight before fading under pressure for Noel Meade and Nina Carberry.
