Trainer Ger Lyons and stable jockey Colin Keane combined for a first-and-last races maidens double at Navan today when their Lustrous Light in the Qatar Racing silks, justified strong 4/5 favouritism to win the concluding KL Construction Maiden.
The pair won the opener with comfortable winner Medicine Jack and while Lustrous Light was made work much harder, responded well for pressure to eventually beat Twilight Payment by a neck.
Afterwards Lyons stated “Colin said he was only doing a half-speed. He's a big baby, was very green and was on and off it (the bridle).
“He went from thinking he'd win easy to 'oh Jeanie' and he then idled in front. I like the horse and the further he goes, the better. That was the next part of his education.
“I also like the third horse (stablemate Ex Patriot and didn't really want to run the two against each other but I love this place for that type of big galloping horse.
“Hopefully the winner can develop into a nice stakes horse."
