Juxtaposition burst through in the closing stages to make a winning debut for Paddy Twomey in the Frank Conroy Irish EBF Maiden at Leopardstown.

The Churchill colt went to post a 3/1 shot on his racecourse bow and found a gap inside the final furlong, under Billy Lee, getting up in the last 50 yards to beat Chief Little Rock by half a length in a tight finish.

The winner was purchased for €85,000 as a yearling.

“He's a nice horse, I thought he might be a little bit green tonight but to be fair to him when he got the chance he battled,” said Twomey.

“His work at home had been good and he was just ready to run, I'm impressed the way he battled when he got the chance.

“I think he has a good future. He was bought by Kevin Connolly and his family with the Goffs Millons in mind. He qualifies for that and there are a million reasons to run him in it!

“John (Connolly) said the last time these colours were worn was Mr Brooks so it was a while ago.

“He'll stay a mile-and-a-quarter or a mile-and-a-half so we won't be in a rush.”

Mr Brooks was a triple Group 3 winner for trainer Kevin Connolly in 1991 and subsequently went on to land the July Cup and Prix de l'Abbaye for Richard Hannon the following year.
