Good As Hell wins at 'double carpet'

Despite winning at Tipperary in July, the Philip Fenton-trained Good As Hell was allowed go off the 33/1 outsider of the field in the Kilsaran Handicap Chase and gave the bookmakers a result when scoring in the hands of Niall Moore.

Two non-completions after that win at the 'Junction' might have explained her SP, along with the fact that all six of her previous wins had come at left-handed tracks.

A third winner on the card for Shantou, James Moran's nine-year-old was in the front rank along with Sargent Lightfoot after the early departure of Kilashee  

Sargent Lightfoot went for home after the second-last but was reeled in by the winner at the last and they were separated by a length-and-three-quarters at the line.

Moore said: “She's the best mare I've ever come across, she's so honest and tough. 

“We missed the start the last day, it was more my fault than anything, and she ended up clipping a heel and coming down as a result of it. 

“It's great for her to come back and win like that. She's been some mare to me, even the amount I've learned off her. For Philip to put me up on her is just great. 

“That's four I've won on her now and I'm one upon Brian Hayes so I'll remind him of that on Monday now! 

“There was obviously a question over her staying two-four but she answered that today. 

“I try not to interfere with her and she saves energy herself. She kept a bit up her sleeve to come home with a finish, and when she gets her head down she's fair hard to pass.

“For a handy mare she's unbelievable to jump. She loves you giving her a squeeze down to them. If you sat quiet on her she'd nearly be looking back at you saying 'what are you doing?!' 

“She's a lovely ride and it's great for Philip. We're having a good season so far and long may it continue.”
