Dermot Weld was touched off in the Group 2 Badener Meile at Baden-Baden earlier today with Imaging but nonetheless bagged a winner at Fairyhouse as his impeccably bred Search For A Song made a winning debut in the concluding Fairyhouse Special Offers (Fillies) Maiden.
By Galileo, Search For A Song is a half-sister to top class performer Free Eagle, and today readily scored under jockey Chris Hayes with a four lengths defeat of Lady Olenna
Weld, whose Imaging finished a half-length second in Germany earlier, later stated “the first thing was to get her into stalls. We’ve done a lot of work with her but she’s claustrophobic. She’s a lovely kind tempered filly and it’s just a question of building up her confidence.
“That was the most difficult part as the actual race I was quite confident the result would be as is. She’s a lovely filly in the making but is still very immature.
“She will either go for a winners of one or a Stakes race maybe the Oaks Trial at Naas. She’s a filly with a lot of potential but she needs more experience if we are to think about the Irish Oaks.
“She’s even claustrophobic in the stable at home. It’s all about giving her confidence but we still have work to do and we will continue to build on that.
“The Oaks Trial is probably a logical next step for her. It’s only a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half will be her forte. If it all comes too soon there are plenty of good races for her later in the year.
“She handles that ground well and is a lovely light-actioned top of the ground filly.”
Regarding Imaging he added “Imaging ran well in Germany today and got a lovely ride from Oisin (Orr). He produced him inside the final furlong but the winner is rated 115 and just beat him going to the line.
“The ground was a bit faster than he likes, and I’d say any ease in the ground and he’d have won. He’s run a cracker and was very well ridden.”
Weld runs Tarnawa in the Epsom Oaks tomorrow and added “Tarnawa was less than two lengths behind Pink Dogwood in Navan and I think she won’t be far away. She’s as tough as teak and doesn’t deserve to be a 25/1 shot.”
