School Boy Hours (2/1 into 6/4) quickly doubled the Cork score for J P McManus and Mark Walsh when triumphing in the UCC Goes Racing Maiden Hurdle.
From the front School Boy Hours may not have been convincing with his hurdling at the business end, but neither was the pursuing favourte La Tektor (6/5).
Seven lengths eventually split them and McManus racing manager Frank Berry said of the Noel Meade-trained School Boy Hours: "He has been a bit unlucky a few times so it is nice to see him come back and win today. It was a nice performance and he likes that ground.
"He is a chasing type of horse and it was nice that he got his jumping together today and did everything right. He's a nice horse and if the ground stays like this we might look for a novice hurdle."
School Boy Hours is a half-brother to the talented but ill-fated Finian's Oscar.
The earlier McManus and Walsh winner meanwhile, was the Joseph O'Brien-trained Landofhopeandglory in race two.
