Disco Boots (15/2) tried 1m4f for the first time in the 58-80 handicap and saw the trip out well to complete a double for Ben Coen after his earlier win on Free To Party
A fast-finishing runner-up over 1m2f at Sligo last time, the daughter of Belardo sat second from an early stage and was driven to the front two furlongs out. Quickly clear, she stayed on well to beat Adonis and First Emperor by four lengths and five lengths.
Winning trainer Peter Fahey said: “The last day was her first time over ten furlongs and when Ben came back in he said she really kept at it. Even stepping up in trip again today he was adamant she would stay and rode her positively.
“We had a frustrating year with her last year, waiting on ground. I genuinely think we could drop her back completely in trip on easier ground. We just chanced our arm and luckily the rain came today.
“I rang Lordan Wyer this morning and he said it was the safe side of good. When they got a shower during the first it really swung it in favour of running her.
“She's a nice filly and I think a lot of her. She has an entry over a mile-and-a-quarter at the Curragh on Champions Weekend but I doubt she'll get in.
“If she comes out of this okay she might go to Galway for the Listed fillies race and try and nick a bit of black-type with her. It would be great for the owner John Heffernan, who is very local to me and was actually at the same school as me.”
