Chancol made an impressive start over fences when claiming the two-mile beginners chase at Punchestown this afternoon.
The Noel Meade-trained gelding made all after being free early on and showing a tendency to hang to his left throughout.
11/8 favourite Mr Fiftyone tried to give chase from the second last but never looked like pegging back the JP McManus-owned gelding.
Paul Carberry was at his confident best as he cruised to a three-and-a-quarter length success on the 13/8 winner.
Chancol was making his first start since winning a maiden hurdle at the track back in February and Meade said:-
“I don't know why he was hanging out the way he did. He hasn't been doing it at home and it's a bit annoying that we don't know why. Paul thought he had something in his ear.
“He was very sick in February and because his immune system was weak the problem we had with the water didn't help. He was a bit fresh there today.”
