Rapid Reaction landed a famous win for County Tipperary duo, owner/trainer/breeder John Grogan, and apprentice jockey Andrew Slattery, in the Joe McGrath Premier Handicap at Naas.
Rapid Reaction's half-sister Katla did Grogan proud at Listed and Group level in a career that ran from 2010 to 2013.
Backed into a returned 12/1 from 25s on track and bigger earlier, the lightly-weighted Rapid Reaction did everything right through this five furlong dash before eventually getting the better of Medicine Jack by three parts of a length.
The front pair drew on by three lengths from the third home, Only Spoofing
"With those sprint races you could run them ten times and get a different result but she settled very well today," said Grogan.
"I can't believe it. I didn't think she'd do it like that. We rode her out this morning and that's the first time we've ever done it.
"She's travelled well and she done it well, he said he didn't even hit her.
"I don't think there is anything left for her now but this is a nice contest to win.
"We'll probably cover her in the spring and then probably get four months out of her next year.
"We've done what we've set out to do. She's the only one I have in training at the moment. We only train what we can't sell.
"We had her in Goffs as a yearling and she got a knock about three weeks before the sale so that's the only reason I'm training her. She'll make a nice broodmare now."
