Ascot Adventure rewards his backers in Cork

Ascot Adventure brought up plenty of bets when winning on debut for the Slatterys in the juvenile maiden at Cork.

The Mayson colt travelled strongly for jockey Andrew Slattery behind the leader Hyde Park Barracks and was pushed along to grab him over a furlong from home.

At that stage he had Screen Siren for company but the 100/30 chance forged clear in the final 100 yards to score by a lengths and three parts. Shelly Banks got up for second at 50/1 by half a length from Screen Siren (40/1). Lay It Out the 9/4 favourite, finished out of the places in fourth.

Trainer Andy Slattery said: "I had him ready early but he got weak and we had to wait until now.

"He is named Ascot Adventure because we thought he might be an Ascot type but he just took a bit of time. He has a great temperament and is a lovely horse and is very fast.

"I was a bit afraid of the ground because being by Mayson he'd probably be better with a little ease.

"He'll probably be sold and I'd love to keep him but I don't think that'll happen!"
