The Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Maiden at Ballinrobe was marred when the Pat Smullen-partnered Late Rosebud proved to be the 'meat in the sandwich' between Daymoona, the eventual winner, and the second home, Pastiches a furlong out. Late Rosebud crashed to the ground and she brought down Balmont Belle with Ronan Whelan up.
Thankfully all horses and riders were alright afterwards though Pat Smullen did give up his remaining ride.
There was no alteration after an enquiry into the incident which saw Daymoona drift right when hitting the front. Pastiches edged left leaving Late Rosebud with nowhere to go.
Back on an even keen the Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned and Kevin Prendergast-trained Daymoona went on to beat Pastiches by two and a half lengths. One True Love the favourite, disappointed again and she had to settle for third place. (TW & EM)
