I have to say we weren't expecting that. He had some niggly problems but he seems to be 100 percent now. He's hard on himself as well, he doesn't relax much. we knew he stayed three miles but it was always on good ground he was finishing strongly. Even at home on deep sand he wouldn't be that comfortable on it. We didn't think he was as ready as he is either. James (Reilly) works for us in the yard and that's his first ride since October and it suited to take 7lbs off him. We'll look for something around Christmas, now that he shows he handles softish ground as well as that. We're delighted because it's a long time since we were in the winners' enclosure here. It does everybody in the yard good.

Kevin gave him a grand ride. We were hopeful enough. He seems to be improving a bit and he’s definitely settling better. It’s his first time in a handicap but I’m not sure if he’s going to be a soft ground horse so we might not have that much more racing to do with him this year if the ground changes. Kevin said it’s sticky enough ground over the far side.

We're delighted with that because he's a horse that has taken us a while to get him where he is today,. He was a very highly strung type of horse. The last day in Ballinrobe a horse fell beside him at the first and I think both the jockey and the horse got a fright and it didn't help him. He has settled there now and has a better way of travelling, he doesn't take as much out of himself. In fairness this evening's race probably wasn't as good a race as the one in Ballinrobe. The ground was probably okay for him. We'll keep him going for a while and might look for a novice somewhere.
