It's a good pot to win. He's a very good horse to win off top-weight and be able to gallop away and win like that,. He ran third in Cheltenham then won in Downpatrick and was just touched off in Galway after making a lot of the running. This has been the plan for a long-time, especially when he didn't get in to the Galway Hurdle.

He was good. 4/5 shots are no fun! He was impressive. It's hard to know what was behind, but Smiler is probably 110-rated. He jumped well and hopefully now he'll go for the Galway Hurdle. He was a bit unlucky at Cheltenham where he pulled too hard and Ballinrobe probably came too soon. He's a delicate horse who doesn't take a lot of racing unlike Lindenhurst who is a tank. You'll probably not see Orgilgo Bay until Galway. He's a brilliant jumper and he'll be able to lay up with them in Galway. He'll have to go up, but probably will after winning by that distance. Hopefully he'll not go up too much!

It was very touch and go whether we let him go on the ground. We waited until Mark rode in the first to make a final decision. The ground was fine but he'd be better with a bit of an ease. He won well going away and he's a brilliant jumper when he gets it right. That run will bring him on a tonne and he was only getting going at the end. We might go for the Grade 3 at Fairyhouse and if we go for that we'll probably give him a bit of a break after that. We'd like to give him a break as he's been on the go for a while. Gelding him has really made a man of him. He's really filled out all over. A lot of the family improve with time and he's a half brother to Third Intention (a Grade 2 hurdles winner cross-channel) so he's got a lot going for him. The owner, Derek Kierans (has 2-time winning juvenile hurdler Lindenhurst with McConnell as well) has a number of pubs in Manhattan and he's been a great supporter of mine. It's nice to have a good horse for him.

All he does is stay - he just keeps galloping. I gave out to Gary the last day for going too slow and he stayed on at the finish. He has been gelded and I probably should have made that known. It's nice to see him doing that, it wasn't a great race - he did it well. I think we'll stick with the flat but if not we have a nice horse to go hurdling. He could be an Ebor type of horse in time.
