“She just looked like she got a bit lonely going to the last. She's so tough and the lady on top of her is so tough. She really battled it out,” said de Bromhead.
“All credit to Petit Mouchoir and Davy Russell, he ran a brilliant race again and Gavin's horse looked very good.
“I had my heart in my mouth coming to the line. She probably needed it and our two went at it fairly early.
“Talk about adapting to two miles, she seemed brilliant. I thought she jumped well to be fair, maybe at the second Patrick jumped past her.
“At the second last I'm not sure if Rachael sat on her and Davy go a good jump or if she make a mistake. I think she was just lonely in front at the last.”
“Rachael is brilliant and I always say that we are very lucky to have her. She's just riding out of her skin and the mare is deadly.”
When asked where she would go from here he added:- “We'll enjoy today. We've won PCI Irish Champion Hurdle and we can discuss all that in time. I'm delighted to get today behind us.”
“We're very lucky to have these horses and get supported by great clients and we have a great team around us.”

It’s the fairytale ending that never normally happens. It’s incredible. I’m so happy for the mare and Rachael and Kenny (Alexander, owner) and all of us. This (reception) is what she deserves. She’s such an unbelievable mare. I’m blown away. We’ve had a terrible year with Jack and everything. It’s been an incredibly tough time and we’re really grateful for the support everyone has given us. You dream that these kind of things will happen, but more often than not they don’t. It’s the result everybody wanted, but you’d daren’t believe that it will happen.

That was absolutely brilliant. She was great again, the pair of them. I'm delighted. She jumped well, I thought, throughout. She maybe went a little bit left at the third last but winged the second last and took off again. It felt like a long straight after the last but she was brilliant and Rachael was brilliant on her. The atmosphere has been amazing here today. Every second person you meet says my daughter, or son, is a massive fan of Rachael and Honeysuckle. It's incredible, it's a dream for us to be involved and we feel very lucky. It's just great having everyone back and isn't it great she was able to do it on the day. We did a lot when there were no crowds around so it's brilliant to see the crowd appreciating her and giving her and Rachael the reception they got.

We weren’t having an amazing week, but she always gets us out of trouble. She’s amazing. I’m just delighted for Kenny (Alexander, owner), Peter (Molony) and everyone involved. She was brilliant and Rachael was brilliant on her. She’s like a lot of those really good horses, she has such a will to win and Rachael is so good on her. She’s done that before at the last, but thankfully Rachael had it all under control. It’s been an amazing season and that’s a great way to finish it off.

I can’t believe we’ve won a Champion Hurdle. Kenny Alexander (owner) and Peter Molony (racing manager) are both at home with their families. It’s a pity they can’t be here today. When Goshen headed off and then came back in I was just slightly worried, but she did everything I wanted her to do throughout the race and it’s just unbelievable. Henry produces her every day in that kind of form for me to just steer round. I’m so thankful to be a part of her (Honeysuckle) — it’s all about her. She’s getting better and improving. Her run the last day was a career-best and again today. It’s phenomenal. It was unbelievable. She’s a very laid-back, chilled out mare — she’s amazing. I’m so used to mine being ridden handy away and after two or three hurdle Rachael looked really happy. After jumping the second-last she had to get after her and Goshen going to the right for a while was a bit worrying as well, but all in all it was probably one of the more relaxed races I’ve watched here. Coming down to the last you just wanted her to get over it, obviously. Rachael is a brilliant rider on any horse and Honeysuckle is just a brilliant horse. The combination is deadly — it’s the perfect storm. I’ll discuss it with Kenny and see what everyone would like to do, but I’d say there’s every chance she’ll head to Punchestown.

it was a tougher race than the odds suggested but there is no easy Grade 1. It was great to see her win on her first run back but I'm delighted with the performance. Last year the Irish Champion Hurdle didn't do us any harm so we might look at that but we'll see how she is after today and makes plans. You'd always be tempted by races like the Champion Hurdle (in March) but we'll head for the Irish Champion Hurdle and then maybe we will firm up on plans.

They are two amazing ladies. It was a great bit of race-riding to nip up the inside when Paul opted to go wide and it looks like it won her the race. Rachael had to sit and suffer for a bit, but when the gap appeared she was gone. She really toughed it out up the hill. She gets from A to B over her hurdles and that’s it. We never try to find out too much at home, but she has always looked nice and came to us highly recommended after winning her point. I don’t know about chasing, we haven’t even touched on that. It’s all been about this week. I always question myself, but she seems as good over two miles and further and goes on all ground. She really battled and threw herself at the last. Whatever about the mare, the lady on her back is something special — the pair of them are brilliant.

It’s great to have a mare like her. She’s gone unbeaten so far, and we’ve had a lot of good days with her already. We’ll see how it all unfolds in the Irish Champion Hurdle. Touch wood, she has been fairly straightforward and very easy to have around. There’s nothing to suggest she won’t go left-handed, but until you go and do it you don’t know. We’re also dropping her back in trip to two miles, which again is a bit of an unknown at this level.

I'm delighted with that. I was a bit nervous beforehand, I have to say. Rachael was really happy with her and we couldn't have asked her to do any more. She said she was grand on the ground, she said it was tough out there. I'm delighted to get it for Kenny Alexander and it's just nice to have her back, and start her season off well. We need to sit down and discuss thing now. She's in the Hatton's Grace so we'll see. It's a bit frustrating because the two mares races we have are both for horses that haven't won Grade 1s. The one at Punchestown next week is understandable, that's a Listed race, and then the Grade 3 at Christmas is for mares that haven't won a Grade 1 so she's quite limited in mares races between now and Christmas. She's in the Hatton's Grace and then we'll look at Christmas as well but I haven't really discussed anything yet. I don't think we'd go across the water unless the lads want to.

She’s a lovely filly and had worked well at home but I hadn’t got her away before today. Anything we saw at home we liked, and it’s lovely to see it now on the track. She jumped really well and was very professional. Mark O’Hare recommended her (after winning a Dromahane point-to-point), and it’s our first runner for (owner) Kenny Alexander. There is a great programme for mares and we’ll work our way along and see how we get on. We’ll probably stick to two and a half miles but I’d say she has the pace for two as well.
