Reports in which Apologise (IRE) was mentioned
My Gaffer completed a notable 48/1 double for amateur rider Dara McGill at Clonmel this afternoon when taking the concluding Monksgrange Beginners Chase.
Thu 13th Feb
Apologise has proved a real bargain buy for the Oakleaf Lads Syndicate and he followed up an initial win at the Limerick Christmas meeting by landing the Minorstown Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel.
Thu 13th Feb
The father and son team of Gary and Dara McGill were on the mark at Limerick as Apologise made a winning start for the Derry connections in the Roche’s Feeds Handicap Hurdle.

That is (jockey, son) Andrew's first winner in those colours. My father worked for Jamie Spencer's dad George all his life, rode winners on Winning Fair, who won the 1963 Champion Hurdle in them, so when I was looking for colours for my wife Mary, I got those. Another horse, Springtime Lad, won a Munster National for my father in those colours so this win is nice to get. We are hoping he (Apologise) will make a nice hurdle horse as he goes on soft. We haven't schooled him as we were hoping to get that win out of the way and going up in trip was a big help. We liked him early on, but he was as green as grass in three maidens.

There is a bus load of the lads here today so I knew the pressure was on and crossing the line I definitely heard them!. He has stepped forward from Limerick so hopefully can stay going the same way. Sometimes he shifts himself to jump left over his hurdles but I got him travelling today and he went on today, which is a good thing. Myself and my father went over to Doncaster and picked him out. He had his problems but if he keeps going the right way, you'd like to think he can continue to give the boys some more fun. The lads are from a bar in Maghera back at home and to get 14 or 15 of them here today is brilliant. He has given them two good days out and owes us nothing at this stage.

His jumping wouldn’t be the greatest but I always felt like I was going to get there. He jumped the last two. He was a cheap purchase but has had his problems. Thankfully we’ve got them worked out for today and he’s got the job done. He should come on from the run and he didn’t jump too badly today.
