FormscanBy Mark Nunan - KYPRIOS sets out on the road back to the Ascot Gold Cup here and, even though Aidan O'Brien is sure to have left plenty to work on, has enough in hand of these rivals to get back to winning ways. Unbeaten in six starts in 2022 including a four-timer at Group 1 level, the Galileo entire missed most of last season having picked up a serious joint infection. He wasn't quite at his best when second in the Irish St Leger and Long Distance Cup at Ascot in the autumn but still ran to a high level of form. Yashin, who carries a 3lb penalty for his win in the Saval Beg Stakes at Leopardstown last May where Dawn Rising was back in third, was well behind the selection in the Irish St Leger when last seen. Queen Alexandra Stakes winner Dawn Rising finished a place ahead of Yashin in the final Irish Classic of 2023 but is held by Kyprios on that form. 2022 Cesarewitch winner Run For Oscar was third to Dawn Rising at Royal Ascot before running creditably in France a couple of times. He would prefer a longer trip.%A0

Quotes on Yashin (IRE)
The autumn plan would be the Melbourne Cup but he'd have to get up a good bit to get to there,. He stays well and he has to have good ground. We think he likes going left handed. He was stuck wide there and keen all the way. Shane said he had no right to pick up and win like he did. I know it was only a short head but he was always getting there. I genuinely thought he would run very well. He didn't run in the Vintage Crop because of the soft ground. He should probably have been going for the Ladies handicap tonight! After Yashin (IRE) finished 1st at Leopardstown on Fri, 19th May 2023 1m 6f Flat Good

Quotes on Kyprios (IRE)
He's a very special stayer. He just does what he has to do. He broke well and he just wanted to follow for a bit. I didn't want the race being slowly run, the pace was nice and even, and I was happy where I was. I always knew he would keep finding plenty and he has been faultless this year. He's very tough. He's very relaxed and is always only in the gear that you want. Ryan gave him a great ride. He's a great horse to have. He's obviously a horse that gets a trip but he has a lot of class. He's very relaxed which is a massive help and helps him get the trip. He's very brave, very clear winded, a good mover and a great mind. It's just a pleasure to have him. It was great that Eva was here to see him today. He's very easy to deal with and it leaves him with a lot of options. He was probably extra lazy today and maybe it was the soft ground that made him a little bit more laboured. He could go back to a mile-and-a-half but obviously we would love to have him around for the Gold Cup for the coming years because he is a unique horse. After Kyprios (IRE) finished 1st at Curragh on Sun, 11th Sep 2022 1m 6f Flat Yielding

Quotes on Lord Erskine (IRE)
Darragh knows him well and was very good on him. I was a bit worried about the ground but Darragh said it was no problem. I could never get him into a good race with a light weight and it was the same on the Flat. He’d a proper weight on his back today and there was a good gallop which suited him. His (late) owner Jerry Nolan was a pure gentleman. I rode winners for him and having an owner like him, you couldn’t buy them. He was easy to train for. This place has been good to me as a jockey and a trainer. After Lord Erskine (IRE) finished 1st at Leopardstown on Sun, 4th Feb 2024 2m Hcap Hurdle Soft

Quotes on Run For Oscar (IRE)
He gave him a good ride, held him up three quarters of the way back and that was the plan, to come there at the second last. It worked out for once. They went a really good gallop and, this week, it seemed to suit to come from off the pace here as the ground is quite dead. He won well, we had a good claimer up and taking seven pounds off gives you a chance in these type of races. I'd say Jack won't be claiming for too long. I'm delighted for the owners and it is brilliant to have a winner here, especially with all my local trainers having winners this week. After Run For Oscar (IRE) finished 1st at Listowel on Sat, 25th Sep 2021 2m 4f Hcap Hurdle Good to Yielding
