The most inexperienced runner in the 19-strong field, Zaragoza who was bought for E200,000 as a yearling, came out on top in the Sky Bet Acca Freeze Handicap.

Out of the frame on his three previous starts, the Dermot Weld-trained four-year-old was fitted with cheekpieces for the first time this evening, on what was his initial try in handicap company.

Drifting from 5/1 to 10s, the Colvin Ryan-owned four-year-old raced in mid-division on the far side, making progress when ridden with less than two-furlongs to go.

Edging to the front inside the final furlong, the Profitable gelding was nudged out in the closing stages to prevail by half a length.

Despite stumbling out of the stalls, Rathbranchurch (14/1) led for much of the race and was only headed inside the final 150 yards, ultimately having to settle for second under Wesley Joyce for Mick Mulvany.

Six-time winner Ice Cold In Alex (13/2 from 12s early) was a length-and-a-quarter back in third, while Saturn Seven (4/1 favourite from 8s) was a head away in fourth.

"He got a very good ride from Chris Hayes and the horse battled well," said Weld.

"He got gelded in the spring and it put manners on him. It was an excellently timed ride by Chris and he just got home.

"I think that's his right trip, and on a level track. We'll see if we can win another one with him."

STEWARDS REPORTS

J.J.G. Ryan, rider of Inishmot Prince, trained by T.G.McCourt, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was short of room in the closing stages of this race. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.

R.P. Whelan, rider of Half Nutz, trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got no run.
