Padraig Roche's Sundial landed the odds in Kilbeggan with a professional performance off the front.

He and Ta Na La raced to the fore in the 2m2f maiden hurdle and the 10/11 favourite eased away from that rival with a quarter of a mile and one flight to negotiate.

He popped the last for Mark Walsh and came in by an eased down five lengths from Mr Dibbs (6/1 from much bigger in the morning). Ta Na La (9/4) dropped two and a-quarter lengths back to third.

Owner JP McManus' racing manager Frank Berry said: “You'd be expecting him to do that. He's a grand little horse, he had a few good runs last year and ran well at Cheltenham.

“He was in at Bellewstown last week, but the ground was just too quick for him. It's nice to get the drop of rain and get him started.

“He'll tip away for the rest of the summer and it's grand to get that out of the way.”

Sundial had been gelded since finishing fourth in the Boodles at the Cheltenham Festival.
