Yellow Rock shines bright
Shane Gray got a sustained run out of Yellow Rock to outgun warm favourite Hangar Five in the mile and a quarter apprentice handicap at Leopardstown.
The Luke Comer charge was sent off at 9/1, but belied those odds when turning over the 11/8 favourite by half a length.
Luke Comer jnr said: “He’s a nice horse. He stayed on well at the end.
“He’ll get a mile and a half. If a race came up for him he would go to Galway.
“Galway’s not the easiest place to pick a race. They all seem to be over seven furlongs or a mile.”
The winner was running in a handicap for the first time after three runs in maidens. Right at the end of the race he jinked right onto Hangar Five but this happened as they had crossed the line.
The Patrick Flynn trained Hangar Five was 3/1 in the morning, opened 13/8 and was backed down to 11/8. Dan Noir at 11/1 finished third for trainer Gerard O’Leary.
