Warnaq became the second horse this afternoon at Naas to win on the season-ending card for the second successive year when landing the Bet At Toals.com Handicap.
The Matthew Smith-trained filly won the mile and a half maiden here 12 months ago, while earlier Aspen Belle repeated her success in the sprint handicap.
Warnaq, available at 16/1 earlier in the day and further supported on track from 12/1 into 10/1, made most of the running in this 1m2f event.
Robbie Colgan ’s mount travelled sweetly early in the straight and stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to score by a length and three quarters.
Sea Of Rome kept on to take the runner-up spot, with Canary Row also finishing well a further two and three quarter lengths away in third. Chiavari completed the places in fourth.
Smith said, “She’s hardy and just gallops away. The slower the ground the better for her. She’ll go on good ground but the others just aren’t able to go with her on slower ground.
“She’s probably better on the Flat than over jumps for some reason but with the Flat season over now she’ll go back over hurdles at some stage.”
