"He's now won his bumper, on the Flat, over hurdles and fences but won't race on very heavy ground during the winter," commented winning trainer Dermot Weld's son Kris after Waaheb justified 2/1 favouritism under Barry Geraghty in the www.tipperaryraces.ie Beginners Chase.
On his fourth excursion over the larger obstacles, two of which previously J P McManus' runner didn't complete, Waaheb got it right this time, proving superior to his market rival, Georges Conn from before the last.
There was a length and a quarter between Waaheb and Georges Conn at the line, with eighteen lengths to Don Vincenzo in third.
"He jumped nicely, Barry was pleased with him, and he did the job well in the end," added Weld.
"He was always well able to jump but can lack concentration."
