Dermot Weld and Chris Hayes combined for a timely winner as Mashia (10/1) made a winning debut in the Al Shira'aa Racing In Support Of The Down Syndrome Centre Fillies Maiden.
The daughter of Kingman tracked the leaders before hitting the front over a furlong out and she kept on well to beat market principals Unless and Sandy Creek by a length and three quarters and half a length.
It was a first winner of the campaign for Weld on the eve of Tahiyra’s 1,000 Guineas bid at Newmarket and his impressive Moyglare Stud Stakes winner will be partnered by Hayes on the Rowley Mile.
"She's a nice filly and she did it well. She's been working well and she's a filly to look forward to,” said Weld.
“I think ten furlongs could be her trip and she's potentially a stakes filly.
“I trained the dam who was a good tough filly, a good stakes filly. I would expect this filly to be a stakes filly as well.”
