Three Stars got his chasing career back on track when taking the John F McGuire Beginners Chase in fine style under Davy Russell at Listowel.
The Westerner gelding was a useful sort over hurdles landing the Grade 3 ‘For Auction’ Novice Hurdle at Navan last season but cut little ice on his first start over fences at Tramore back in June.
Russell sent him to the front before the penultimate flight, and the 9/2 chance kept on well to score by three lengths.
The 11/10 favourite Ball D’Arc took the runner-up spot, with Inis Meain another three quarters of a length back in third.
Winning trainer Henry de Bromhead said, “Davy gave him a super ride and I’m delighted for his owners Robert and Julie Finnegan. It was a nice performance.
“We thought if he won here he could go for a 2m2f novice chase at Punchestown next month, and that is probably where he will go.
“I’d put it down to trainer error the last day, fast ground and a fast track, but I learned my lesson. In fairness Robert called it and we gave him a break. I think his jumping will get more fluent as he gets more of it.”
