Triple bumper victor and recent flat maiden winner Shanroe got off the mark over jumps at Tipperary today, landing the Oola Handicap Hurdle as trainer Karl Thornton continues to navigate the gelding's way through the ranks.
The son of Multiplex was the winner of a flat maiden at Limerick nine days ago and today, under Donagh Meyler, arrived with his challenge on the outer to lead approaching the final flight.
The pair stayed on well on the run-in to score a two and a half lengths win over Lucky Phil
Co Dublin based Thornton lated commented “he is still a little bit green; I brought him to England for hurdles experience after winning his three bumpers but he got brought down. It was the ideal and right thing to do with him but experience-wise, he just needed a couple of runs.
“The reason I ran him back so quick (after winning at Limerick) was there was nothing for him for five or six weeks and we were going to get safe ground today.
“I don't know what it is, but my horses don't seem to go around sharp tracks so he will probably avoid Galway with him; it's all about winners and we'll go where we can get one. I can't see him getting too much for winning today and we could also nip over to England if he is allowed travel.”
