The King Of Brega was full value for his 10-lengths success in the two mile six handicap hurdle in Down Royal.

Pat Downey’s charge was following up on his win in Thurles last week. Before that he had three ‘duck eggs’ to his name.

The 9/2 shot led from the second and was still tanking along at the top of the hill heading for home. He stayed on strongly to rout his 19 rivals in some style. Lord Of Isenay (16/1), Allez Vic at 7/1 and 100/30 favourite Not For Changing all finished within a length of each other in second, third and fourth respectively.

Delighted trainer Pat Downey said: “I knew in Thurles he would run a blinder. I couldn’t leave this pot behind. There’s more to come. I’ll put him away and there could be further things next spring for him.

“He’s a fair horse and I always loved him. He just needed time. We bred all the family. I love Court Cave’s [sire] and I’ve been given free nominations for life!”

Winning jockey Robbie Colgan said: “It’s nice jumping ground. He just got away with it.”

Andrew Lynch on board Tyrone Tiger who finished 19th, reported that his mount pulled up lame.
