Brandy Love was a facile mares’ bumper winner for Willie and Patrick Mullins at Fairyhouse on Saturday and 11/8 favourite Take Tea won the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares’ Flat Race with similar ease.
Always in the front rank, she went clear in the final quarter mile and wasn’t at all extended as she beat Feddans (66/1) by eleven lengths with Red As Rust (15/2) back in third.
The Willie Mullins-trained mare, owned and bred by Jackie Mullins, is out of a half-sister to the stable’s 2012 Grade 1 Hennessy Gold Cup winner Quel Esprit.
It was a double on the day for the Mullins stable after Echoes In Rain in the opener.
Winning rider Patrick Mullins said: “That’s what she’s been showing at home. She has a great pedigree out of Saine D’esprit but unfortunately the dam died over the winter.
“Willie put the tongue-tie on and I think he was just being safe more than anything. The ground isn’t as heavy as it could be but she handled it very well.
“Everything about her says she’s a black type mare. I don’t know whether the owner (mother Jackie) will want to breed off her or whether she’s for sale but either way she’s going to be exciting.
“I’d rather she keeps her and I can ride her over hurdles!”
